Fragment (2019)
"It is a sequence of fragment time,
a fragment of my time, a fragment of your time, and a fragment of our time."
This image sequence explores the relationship between time, space, and life from images. Different from ordinary photographic works, I tried to add "timeliness" to still images and express them in the form of video sequence works. I attempted to reconnect the time fragments condensed in the still images with "time" to explore the horizontality and verticality of time.
Time is invisible, yet it is present everywhere. The time that is constantly progressive is quietly accumulated everywhere. Each object, each space, and each person in the image has its own time. The still images that record these moments become fragments of time, fragments of my time, fragments of my life. We who are watching this video sequence, our time also unknowingly becomes part of this collection of fragments.
Each still image actually represents some stage in my past when I was experiencing emotional distress in the past decade. Human beings cannot remember every past and every detail, so our brains divide our memories into fragments of moments, just like how we capture moments with photography. Through these still images, I am trying to show the sense of dissociation I felt during that time. And by reconnecting these fragments again, I wish to reorganize my emotions and my past. I treat it as a process of self therapy, and a processing of making peace with myself.
This is a fragments of time, fragments of my time, fragments of my life.
